Our Adventure and Behavioral Treatment Programs
First Light Wilderness Therapy‘s campus was established in 2020 in the lush mountain forest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Here, clients enjoy unique outdoor adventure experiences while working through behavioral traumas using practices rooted in neurobiology and relational immersion. Our methods are based on evidence proven to provide positive results leading to a better quality of life and stronger relationships in families.
A Program to Meet the Family’s Needs
Our students and families find success through the three different programs we offer. Each one is designed to meet specific needs based on trauma history, social behavior, family relationships, and other factors our staff discusses during the enrollment process.
Therapeutic adventure offers the opportunity to build trust, cooperation, communication, passion, and joy through activities that involve risk but are appropriately supervised for safety. While balancing failures with the potential for success, the program provides valuable learning experiences for future reflection.
Our teen program is designed to allow students to fully immerse themselves in their therapy experience without outside distractions, such as screen time and peers. We provide therapeutic care around the clock while offering natural adventure experiences and academic credits toward school.
Generational Empowerment, Families
The family program involves parents in the therapy process by providing weekly calls with the child's lead therapist to discuss progress and learn about family dynamics. Parents play an active role in their child's improvement by developing skills to understand their difficulties. Provided readings and therapy assignments offer confidence and knowledge to handle situations better at home.
